Jay’s work spans healthcare, threat intelligence, consumer platforms, and startups. His responsibilities have grown from platform engineering to technology leadership, with direct experience in hiring, vendor decisions, budgets, quality assurance, and releases.

As founder and CIO of WEBApps.NYC from 2010 to 2021, he combined software delivery with the work of running a business: selecting and developing teams, managing partnerships and client contracts, and planning operating and capital budgets. That experience shapes how he approaches advisory work at Vitasphere.

LifeChef: platform leadership and applied AI.

Role: CTO and Principal, beginning in 2020.

Jay leads technology development for LifeChef’s personalized nutrition platform, connecting a subscription product with recommendations based on individual health profiles.

His work at LifeChef also includes applying Enso to AI-assisted engineering for an intelligence platform. The approach connects written requirements and verification with human responsibility for direction and delivery.

This is where long-term platform ownership and current AI practice meet: introducing new tools into an operating business with existing users, workflows, and delivery obligations.

Flashpoint: from platform architecture to technology direction.

Roles: Lead Platform Architect, Director of Technology, and VP of Technology, 2013–2015.

At Flashpoint, Jay’s responsibilities progressed from developing the platform to leading technology strategy and execution. The business provides threat intelligence to enterprises and government agencies.

That progression connects two perspectives buyers need from a senior advisor: understanding the architecture in detail and taking responsibility for the direction of the technology organization.

FoodieTrip: simplify the system so the team can move.

Role: Software Engineering Advisor, 2017–2018.

Jay led a three-developer team working on a marketplace for local food experiences. The work focused on stabilizing the product, reducing hosting costs, and removing complexity inherited from earlier development teams.

The team standardized and modernized the technology stack and automated recurring procedures. It is a practical example of technology assessment leading into focused engineering changes.

Today’s work includes AI agents, semantic search, retrieval-augmented generation, and model evaluation. The engineering questions remain concrete: what information is available, what actions are permitted, how results are checked, and who owns the outcome.

WebFetch.MCP

Jay created an open-source MCP server that connects local AI clients to web search and content extraction. It is a public example of building the tools that make external information usable in an AI workflow.
